Common Soapwort – Saponaria Officinalis
Endemic, wild plant along riverside habitats. Even the banks of the river Arno, that flows beside our nursery, in August turn to white. It’s been used since ancient times to produce soap because the leaves produce a scented froth with cleansing properties when rubbed together. Has a role in gardens for the humid habitat where it thrives creating light and bright pink patches.
